Basilica in pink and yellow, watercolor digital ipad plein air painting, Mexico.
Parroquia de Basílica Colegiata de Nuestra Señora de Guanajuato, one of the most beautiful basilicas I’ve ever visited in the world. It’s a confection of pinks and yellow, shimmering with gold and the fabulous heavy ornate chandeliers are most impressive. Normally the chandeliers are not lit by day but when a funeral pays to have them on, the place is transformed again into a wonderland.
One of the biggest reasons I wanted to master digital painting was to take it into places just like this where real paints would NOT be welcomed. I painted in this church several times and was silent witness to at least 3 Mexican funerals as they quietly moved into the floor as I was quietly and respectfully painting from a pew on the side of the nave. I shook hands with them as a church participant after their service.
Working in layers allows for the chandelier to sit above the watercolor background of the church walls.
