Intense colorful painting of young girl with feather plumes. I had just seen a fantastic film on Alice Neel and was sort of channeling her in this one. I love Alice Neel’s work, so direct, honest and vigorous.

Pop art portrait of young girl in pink and turquoise.
I set out to play around and explore a different approach in each panel and this 7 panel format was just perfect for that. This juicy one was done mostly with a nice little wedge palette knife.
The letters spell Houdini, the great escape artist. The young dancer will soon be escaping from her childhood and slipping towards adulthood.
