On my way up the coast on this trip, I noodled around some of the pretty, tiny bays south of town and settled in with my iPad to sketch this one. The seas and skies are always changing and beach walkers come and go with their dogs.

Sketching with an iPad offers fast changes between "mediums" and no need to set them aside to dry between layers as watercolors on paper sometimes need. I'd love to be out there with my oils, watercolors and brushes too but I'm finding it much more satisfying to have my whole toolkit in one device to quickly drop into my bag and take along so I'm pushing that to learn how to make the most of it.

Lots of layers of transparent digital watercolor wash, marker effects and gel pen.
