Bunnies By The Bay
The inspiration for the outside of my house is the wonderful shop Bunnies By The Bay in La Conner, WA. The house has multi-colored Victorian gingerbread trim and a wild decorative fence assembled from all kinds of found objects. Driftwood, household utensils and garden tools add to the fun and irreverent look of this shop.
After about 20 wonderful years at this location, the house closed in 2012 and the smaller Bunnies store is now on La Conner’s main street. I’m so glad that I was able to visit this wonderful creative and inspiring place when it existed.
Cut-out carrot fence. In the window can just be seen one of their fabulous original design cat dolls standing at a small ironing board. They have cute baby clothes and adorable bunnies and cat dolls with such character.
La Conner is just a bit north of Seattle. It’s a lovely weekend getaway with great shops, restaurants and a very colorful and photogenic tulip season in the Spring.
This part of the fence gets a nautical look with old oars and some heavy rusty chain. My fence could not have such wide opening as this because of local bylaws.
